Materialis is compatible with one of the most popular plugins used for translating a website content into different target languages.
Here’s how to use Polylang:
Install and Activate the plugin
In the WordPress Admin dashboard, go to Plugins -> Add New. Type Polylang in the search bar and find the Polylang plugin in the directory.
Press Install Now, then press Activate.
Then go to Plugins -> Installed Plugins to check if the Polylang plugin has been installed correctly.
Configure the plugin
After the plugin has been installed and activated, a new section is added in the left-hand menu of the WordPress Admin dashboard.
Go to Languages -> Settings:
Select new languages you want your content translated to, and click Add New Language.
Translate content using Polylang
In the WordPress Admin dashboard, go to Pages/Posts and open the table of pages/posts.
You can notice two columns were added in the table, each of them corresponding to the target languages you have set up when configuring the plugin.
Let’s take the example of the Front Page. Click on Edit, then click on Update to set up this page as the reference page with content in the original language. Then go back to the list of pages and select the Front Page. Click on the + sign to add a page in the target language, the corresponding page of the original Front Page.
Give the new page a title in the target language. Copy the content from the original page and paste it in the corresponding translated page, then start making the translation.
Click Publish and you’ll have the translated version of the original page.
In the table of pages, you’ll see the two page versions, and the symbol indicating in which language that page content is displayed.
